when we increase both the numerator and denominator by 7, a fraction changes to 3/4. Find the original fraction.
I was able to solve this question from the answers given. But I also wanted to know how to solve from the question itself: (x+7)/(y+7)=3/4 and by cross multiplying I get 4x=3y+7. How to get x/y from here?

the total salary of a,b and c is rs 444. if they spend 80%, 85% and 75% of their salaries resp, their savings are as 7:6:9. then salary of B is:
a. Rs140 b. Rs160 c. Rs144 and d. none of these.
savings are 20%of a's income 15% of b's income and 25% of c's income.
so 20a:15b:25c=7:6:9. I am stuck and can't go beyond this point :(

A question from external source:
I went to a hotel along with 12 friends. I paid Rs145 and all the others paid an equal amount. In the end, we did some calculations and found that the avg sum paid by all of us was Rs5 more than what was originally paid by each of my friends. How much money dud each of my friends pay?
let friends pay Rsx per person. So total amount paid = 145+11*x.
average amount paid =(145+11*x)/12=x+5 and so x=85. But this was not the OA. So is this method correct?

IGNORE THE PREVIOUS QUESTION ASKED. I got the solution: 5 burger 6 pizza and 7 cold drinks cost Rs 178 and 6 burgers 4 pizzaz and 2 cold drinks cost rs 124. what is the cost of 3( pizzas burgers cold drinks)?---there are 2 equations with 3 variables. How to proceed? I did not understand the part---Let us multiply (1) by a and (2) by b. I have marked it in caps. Pls help. Let the cost of 1 burger = B , cost of 1 pizza is = P and cost of 1 cold drink = C 5B 6P 7C = 178 (1) 6B 4P 2C = 124 (2) We have to find the value of 3B 3P 3C I DID NOT UNDERSTAND FORM THIS POINT..... Let us multiply (1) by a and (2) by b and them so that we get the equation for 3B 3P 3C . We have to find the values of a and b that give such an equation So comparing we get 5a 6b = 3 6a 4b = 3 7a 2b = 3 Solving them we get a = 3/8 and b = 3/16 Thus the value of 3B 3P 3 C = (178). 3/8 (124). 3/16 = 90

to the previous solution you had mentioned, it turns out that in total there are 19 members out of which 35 play tennis 28 swim and 24 play tennis which does not sound correct. By using the standard formula AUBUC i am getting the answer as 73 that is total number of people is 73. I am still not getting your method.

At a country club 35 people play golf, 28 swim, and 24 play tennis. Of these people, 6 play golf and tennis only, 9 play golf and swim only and 7 play tennis and swim only. 8 people do all three activities. How many members are there altogether? Why can't we use the formula AUBUC=A B C-A intersection B-B intersection C-C intersection A A intersection B intersection C? using that method I got different answer

in Example 18: Two women, Sujain and Mariya, working separately can mow a field in 8 hrs and 12 hrs respectively. If they work in stretches of one hour alternately, Sujain beginning at 9 a.m., when will the mowing be finished?----------------------- in 2hrs 5/24 of field is mowed so in one hr 5/48 of field is moved. in 9hrs 45/48 or 15/16 of field is moved. so time taken to mow 1/16th of field =1/16 by 1/12 hours or 12/16=3/4hours or 45mins. I understood your method, but what is wrong in this method? there is a difference of 15mins!

example 17: I got the amount to be removed as 5/6th of the solution. This is how i approached: 1: let x solution be removed and x syrup be added, so 2x/5 syrup removed and 3x/5 water removed. 2:syrup in solution after removal=2-2x/5 3:water in solution after removal=3-3x/5. 4:to this solution we add x parts syrup so syrup in solution becomes 2-2x/5 x while water in solution remains the same. 5: as per the condition after the above process we have 2-2x/5 x=3-3x/5 or x=5/6. there amount removed was 5/6th of solution.------------pls help me understand this. ALSO I HAVE POSTED FEW MORE QUESTION, PLS HELP ME BY REPLYING TO THEM. thanks in advance!

In example 7, i have a doubt: the equation mentioned in your explanation is 18% of x 8% of (50-x) = 14% of 50. Now 18% and 14%, 8% are profit percentages while x, 50-x and 50 are weights in kilograms. Although percentages are unit-less, how can we equate profit percentages with weights?

Example : A, B and C are partners A receives 2/5 of the profit and B and C share the remaining profit equally. A’s income is increased by Rs 220 when the profit rises from 8% to 10%. Find the capitals invested by A, B and C. Solution: For A’s share: (10% - 8%) directly proportional Rs 220 So 100% directly proportional 220/2 x 100 = Rs 11000 So A’s capital = Rs 11000 For B’s C’s share: 2/5 directly proportional 11000 So 3/5 directly proportional 11000/2 x 3 = Rs 16500 So B’s and C’s capitals are Rs 8250 each. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| I did not understand the part "For B’s C’s share: 2/5 directly proportional 11000". Please explain this question to me...
