    Sol. Here, we have a room surrounded by a varandha



    We have given,
    Area of room =5 x 4
    =20m2
    Area of square =22m2
    Therefore Area of entire ABCD=(20+22)
    (5+2x)(4+2x) =42
    20+10x+8x+9x2 =42
    4x2 +18x+20=42
    2x2 +9x+10=21
    2x2+9x-11=0
    2x2 +112-2x-11=0
    x(2x+11)-1(22 +1)=0
    (2x+11)(x-1) =0
    x=-11/2  , x=11

    Hence, the width of the varandha is1.
