We guess the question is about two consecutive odd numbers and not consecutive add numbers
Let us say that the numbers are 2m-1 and 2m+1
(2m-1)(2m+1) = 6399
4m² - 1 = 6399
4m² = 6400
m² = 1600
m = 40
thus, the two numbers are 2(40) -1 and 2(40) + 1
so the smaller number = 79
