  • At a country club 35 people play golf, 28 swim, and 24 play tennis. Of these people, 6 play golf and tennis only, 9 play golf and swim only and 7 play tennis and swim only. 8 people do all three activities. How many members are there altogether?

    Why can't we use the formula AUBUC=A B C-A intersection B-B intersection C-C intersection A A intersection B intersection C? using that method I got different answer

    Sol.
        Here,we have
    Playing Golf---> 35
    Swim ------->28
    Tennis------>24

    Golf&Tennis ---->6
    Golf & Swim ----> 9
    Tennis & Swim---->7
    Golf, Tennis & Swim ----> 8

    With the help of above formula, we can draw

    Tennis = Playing only Golf
    =35-6-9-8
    =12

    Playing only Tennis
    =24-6-8-7
    =3

    Playing only swim
    =28-9-8-7
    =4
    Therefor the total no. of members are
    12+3+4
    =19 members

    You will definitely get the answer by this formula try it again.
