Conserve energy between the initial and final positions.

Initial potential energy = -GMm/ro . Here M is the mass of the earth and m is the mass of the particle.

    Initial kinetic energy = 0.

    Final potential energy = -GMm/Re.

    Final kinetic energy = 1/2 m v2.

v is the velocity of the particle when it reaches the surface of the earth.

Equate final energy to initial energy to get the value of v. 'm' the mass of the particle cancels off as it is present in all the expressions.
