The field of mass communication is just too wide for any set of prescribed qualities and skills to cover all the required aspects. Mostly though all roles would require that you posses excellent communication skills and are also a good team player. Since there is a lot of unearthly shifts required in most media along with a lot of work for progressing in the field, physical stamina and perseverance are also important. Other than that when looking for a career in Mass Comm., one should talk to and asses the people who are successful at that particular area of mass comm. that he/she is planning to specialize in to get a better idea of the skills that are required. Anyone to take on any of the fields of mass communication definitely requires better than average performance in whatever one does as it is a very competitive field.


For example for a lot of mass comm. jobs one must have a passion for language and words, written or spoken. The ability to think critically, an attention to detail and superb organizational skills are also important. And these skills are most needed for roles like journalists, writers, editors, PR reps and marketing managers, among other jobs. Excellent writing and speaking skills, the ability to interact with others and sometimes the ability to operate technical equipment etc also help one in their pursuit of a career in mass comm.
