IIFT 2010 Analysis


This year the entrance test for Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, one of the most prestigious B-schools of the country, was conducted on Sunday, 28th Nov. It was surprising in the sense there was no surprise. The level of difficulty varied between moderate to difficult. The weight-age of different sections remained the same as last year. Negative marking was the same as last year. General Awareness, which is relatively tougher, was also of moderate level of difficulty. Here is the distribution of total marks among different sections and the weight-age attached to them:


Quantitative Aptitude:
Total number of Qs: 30 questions,
Weight-age per Question: 1 mark
Total Marks: 30 marks
Expected Score: 6-8


Logical Reasoning/Data Interpretation:
Total number of Qs: 35 questions,
Weight-age per Question: 1 mark,
Total Marks: 35 marks
Expected Score: 12-15


General Awareness:
Total number of Qs: 30 questions,
Weightage per Question: 0.4 mark
Total Marks: 12 marks
Expected Score: 2-3


Reading Comprehension:
Total number of Qs: 15 questions,
Weightage per Question: 0.7 mark
Total Marks: 10.5 marks
Expected Score: 3-5


Verbal Ability:
Total number of Qs: 25 questions,
Weightage per Question: 0.5 mark
Total Marks: 12.5 marks
Expected Score: 5-8
(RC and VA were the subsections under a common section)


  1. There are many speculations regarding the overall cut-off, bear in mind that there are no different cut-offs for IIFT, Delhi and Kolkata campuses.
  2. The decision regarding the allotment of the campus is made at the end of the entire selection procedure.
  3. Last year the cut-off for IIFT was 37.5, and since this year also the paper was more or less on the same pattern.
  4. A score in the range of 33-36 can be seen as a good score.
